Hi,

Welcome to my blog dedicated to my three favourite F words; food, family and friends where I will be sharing stories, recipes, cooking tips, pictures and some plain old cooking know how - basically all things food related.
For my first blog I will share with you a dedication.  In the year 2000 I put together a cookbook for our Hebert Family Reunion celebrated in July of that year.  Family member sent in their favourite recipes for the book which was dedicated to our now late grandmother “Memère Hébert” who was turning 90 on that very same weekend.   Here is how the dedication was written.
Food is not only nourishing and therapeutic but is often the focal point of a celebration.  With Memère Hébert, everyday is a celebration especially when her family is around her.
Over the years, we have learnt a lot from her and are still learning from her today.  She worked hard most of her life but also found time to play with us when we were young.
She has sincere ethics and genuine qualities; a few that we will carry with us forever.   She never gossips, she treats everyone the same, she easily forgives, she finds good in everyone and she is endlessly optimistic.   And that is just the tip of the iceberg.  No doubt you have your own memories and have learned many lessons from her.
That is why this recipe book is dedicated to our matriarch, Memère Hébert.  Even though she was never a gourmet cook, she showed us how to substitute, experiment and to make do, but mostly she showed us how to cook ingeniously with a sense of adventure and optimism.  With occasionally little in her pantry she made soups, stews and cakes to feed her large family and often made us feel like we were at a feast.  With this kind of heritage and our own full pantry, how can we go wrong?   Merci beaucoup Memère.

Of course my blog would not be complete without a food picture.
Our reunion cake  - 14 families @ 4 cakes each = 56 cakes put together.

Hope you enjoyed it.
Until next time,
Margaret
